Air conditioning Mentone

Separate houses are now outnumbered in Mentone, a seaside suburb on Port Phillip Bay. At the 2021 Census they made up 44.0% of occupied dwellings, against 37.2% semi-detached homes or townhouses and 18.2% flats or apartments.

Across Kingston, nearness to the bay’s beaches has encouraged free-standing houses to be replaced by higher-density living. For air conditioning Mentone homes, that means smaller footprints, shared walls and less room for an outdoor unit, so a split system or multi-head system is often the right fit. I Heat and Cool is family-owned, and every recommendation follows a free on-site quote.

Space-saving air conditioning for Mentone by the bay

A townhouse with three bedrooms and an open living area can often run from a single outdoor unit. A multi-head split system connects several indoor units to one outdoor unit, saving wall and ground space on a narrow block.

Being by the water adds a second consideration. Salt air is hard on outdoor coils and fittings, so the unit belongs out of direct sea breezes while keeping clear airflow and access for servicing.

Mentone’s only heritage precinct is the Como Parade East Precinct, and individually listed places include Kilbreda, Glen Court on Beach Road, the Mentone Hotel and the railway station and gardens. Kingston Council’s heritage policy does not mention air conditioning units specifically, though on any Heritage Overlay property the statewide Clause 43.01-1 means a permit can be needed for services visible from a street (other than a lane) or public park.

In the 1950s, market gardens and farms on the suburb’s edge were subdivided for housing, and the separate houses that remain usually suit a ducted reverse cycle system.
